About the Author
My name is Hazel Townshend. I am a twenty year old naturalist sharing the wonders of wildlife from the perspectives of inspiring hard-working women and my own experiences in the field. I have always wondered why people are so fascinated by the idea of ghosts, gods and extra-terrestrial life when the natural world is already magical enough. With so much still undiscovered here on earth, people must appreciate and protect what is left of the great outdoors.
My Story
I grew up in the East Sussex countryside where I spent most of my childhood exploring the ancient woodlands, fields and coastal areas with my friends. At home, I would sit at my desk for hours drawing animals and reading through encyclopedias and like most little ones, I went through an intense dinosaur phase. Secondary school was a learning curve for me as it was safe to say sports were not my strong point and 'girl gossip' would bore me half to death. Instead I found a love for writing and creating.

Towards the end of school, I quickly realised all my interests would somehow link back to wildlife. My artwork consisted of free-motion embroidered flowers, leaf prints, and detailed animal drawings and paintings. The only books I would read were biology related, my favourite magazine was BBC Wildlife and my favourite film, still to date, was Jurassic Park.

Whilst everyone had to cancel plans and put their careers on hold during lock-down, it only enhanced my passion as those daily walks helped me reconnect with nature in a brand new way. This encouraged me to study animal management for two years at an agricultural college. During this time, I worked for free as a farm hand at a local stables with a small holding of chickens, pigs and sheep. I later worked in the RSPCA with British wildlife including seals which are very common along the south coast.

At this point, I went down a rabbit-hole (sometimes literally) and got very into my photography. After a bit of freelance dog walking and sitting, I eventually landed a job in retail which remains my main source of income. However, I am now studying a bachelors degree in Wildlife Conservation and hope to utilise my knowledge and experiences to make revolutionary changes in the field.

What is Woman Inherits The Earth?
Women in natural sciences are consistently making extraordinary discoveries and conservation breakthroughs all over the world! Their work is often overshadowed despite it being fundamental in understanding wildlife and protecting the future of the natural world. It's time to shed some light on their efforts in an attempt to inspire the heiresses of the earth to follow in their footsteps.

This blog is about sharing the untold stories of women, like myself, with a passion for wildlife whose contributions are shaping modern science. In the age of social media, it has never been easier to procrastinate and distract ourselves from harsh realities. I want to educate people on how damaging wildlife will affect our daily lives but also provide hope for the future thanks to the women fighting its corner. You don't have to live and breathe nature to appreciate its importance. It is the sole life-support system of the human race and must not be exploited but instead protected.
